Hello everyone,

Just got the trailer hitch wiring harness part# S8F67-AC800 for my 2023 Palisade. Got it May 19th but the ETA was for June 6th. Unfortunately, I had to cancel two camping trips because of this back order.

I installed the harness as it’s plug and play and simple to install. Please note that there are several plugs (6-7) and so I would not recommend having a trailer hitch shop install the harness by splicing into the wires as the dealer recommended me to do at the time. Hyundai (the dealer and Hyundai Canada) could not give me a straight answer as to whether that was covered under warranty. Reading previous blogs, there have been fires due to 3rd party meddling, hence my concern.

To answer Tkmitchell’s question about where I installed the brake module, well it is on the fuse hatch cover lid (beside your left knee when you are at the wheel). The hatch has a handle hole & that’s where I passed the wires (not my idea, got that from a previous blog…). It is esthetically OK and not at all in the way.

Thanks all for your advice on this.

Pierre-Yves
Did you have any customs paper work you had to fill out or did the dealer take care of that ?

Thank you for the time everyone has invested in this. I am coming in late to this. What a goat rodeo. I just need to install a 4-pin harness for a simple trailer for 2023 Palisade.
The part mentioned is: S8F67-AC800. The link provided in an earlier thread linked to PartsPro in Canada. But that part says it doesn't fit 2023 :

Could anyone provide a link to the one that does work? I just need a 4-pin.

I have not found anyone who can tell what that thing behind the bumper is for. But definitely not for the harness. And I don't know why it says it does not fit. It is the part I ordered and installed on my 23 XRT. It is a 7pin not 4 so maybe overkill, but it is plug and play and you can get a 7pin to 4 adapter. I use them all the time because I always set up my vehicles with a 7pin plug. If all you need is a 4pin I see that CURT has released a harness for the 23 Palisade. It plugs into the light assemblies at the rear. No cutting or splicing it appears.

Not sure if it helps anyone but I called Hyundai Parts Pro earlier this week to check the status of my wiring harness order (placed on March 9th). The guy I talked to said they are getting a steady supply of them in now and are currently filling orders placed the first week of March.

Update, I just received my shipping notice today.

The AC800 is the harness for a 2023 Palisade. The older AC400 is a 4 pin for the 2020 to 2022 but will not work for the 2023 because the connectors are different and in a different location. Plus the 2023 uses a cam bus to the module instead of discrete lines for the lights. You could just buy a 7 to 4 pin adapter. Otherwise shop the aftermarket vendors.

Update too. Just received email my harness has shipped!! Finally!! For the ppl
Still waiting, we are using a Tekonsha and have been able to tow out RV since October but the turn lights are slow to respond and it does not charge our RV battery while towing. You can use it while you get the Hyundai one. Very excited to finally get it soon. I ordered it February and 28.

UPDATE: We got our Harness!! My husband installed it without a problem!! Comes with easy to follow instructions!! Working 👍🏼

I saw someone say definitively, absolutely, definitely the connector behind the rear bumper is not for the harness.
So, for those with the official Hyundai harness: where does the harness plug in?
I have the official harness that I bought from Canada. I installed it. It plugs into a plug that is accessed by removing the cargo compartment. I followed the directions that came with the harness. Everything works as it should.

I've pulled that cargo area. There is no connector under that "pan and lid" on my 2023. I've gotten down to the bare metal.
I'm starting to think we are all talking about the same thing, but mid model year, they moved the connector under the bumper.
About 1.0-1.25" wide (from memory), thin white capped connector, small female pin holes?

I have that same connector behind my bumper. Many thought that may be the new plug, but it turned out not to be the case. I wish someone could find out what that plug is for. Anyone have access to the wiring maintenance information?
The plug for the harness is not in plain view when you pull the storage compartment. It is on the driver side. Up behind the trim. Taped to the wire bundle that goes through the rubber grommet. Not much slack. Maybe some cars did not have it installed. I don't know. But I have seen comments from several (here and other places) that said it was not there but then after further searching did find it. There are good pictures of an install here that show the exact location. Not sure what to tell you other than many people have bought that harness. Found the plug where the instructions say it is. And installed it.
I will add that the instructions for the installation call for removing the trim panels on the driver side. Maybe with those off the plug is much more visible and accessable. But I installed without removing it. To do that I had to choose a different ground spot for the control box but that was easy to do.

It's taped to the cable on the drivers side in the corner near the seat. Its not obvious as its taped on the back side of the wiring going through the big gromet. The 9 page instructions guide you through it.

Maybe the wrong thread, but has anybody had the Trailer Tow Hitch Harness recall remedy, yet? I had mine yesterday and this morning when I checked it, the lights on my trailer did not work until I put the 40amp fuse back in. Were they supposed to replace the fuse the removed for the temporary solution? Was it the 40amp? I read in the paperwork that they should use a 15amp, but I am not sure if that is to replace the 40amp or used elsewhere (is there a fusible link in the harness itself?). I am not even sure if they replaced the harness, based on the paperwork. I am using the Palisade to pull my pop-up trailer later this week. Help!

It is my understanding that the harness piece they are replacing has the 15 amp fuse. I replaced my Hyundai harness with a Curt one. The original harness had no fuse, whereas the Curt does. I pulled my own 40 amp fuse because I figured they wouldn't put it back in unless they were called out on it. Now, do I keep the Curt installed and ask for reinbursment from Hyundai? Or, do I put the Hyundai one back in, let them replace it and keep the Curt as a spare?

The local Hyundai dealer did the recall in my eTrailer harness, Curt Hitch, by pulling the 40amp fuse. When I called big Hyundai, they said, Yes, fires in other vehicles without factory harness. Now the fix is out, to replace 40 with 15amp fuse under the hood. I used a 30amp fuse one day, when I discovered my lights didn't work, and I had been swept into the "factory" harness recall.

Turns out my dealer did absolutely nothing. I thought that I had the remedy (I received a letter from Hyundai), but apparently my dealer did not have the part even though I was scheduled for this purpose. Terrible communication between corporate and local dealers. So I put the fuse in temporarily while travel to and from the campsite.
