Well after filing a claim with BBB a week ago, Hyundai called me last night and is going to buy back the Pali! Excited for this and going through BBB was a super easy process. This is twice now I used them because both times the manufacturer denied my request but as soon as I filed the claim, it got approved. So Hyundai is turning it over to a 3rd party, said about a week to get the offer to me. It will be a full buy back, minus mileage, or a cash settlement offer. I asked about trading to a 2022 and they don't do that. Nissan did that for me back in 2015. But oh well, I might be looking at a different SUV anyways. I am going to ask my Hyundai dealer if they will sell one at MSRP because right now they have $3500 markups.

Can you keep this updated with reasonableness of offer, etc. I will be getting mine back today, after a week at the dealership, and all they did was tear apart the seats and spray them with cleaner.....again. The Service Manager is frustrated, but nothing they can do. I plan to reach out on the Class Action Lawsuit and see where that stands, and am considering the BBB approach. Will have to research how to file a BBB compliant, Hyundai is the 1st company I've ever had that mistreated me like this.

And as I went to research the class action, looks like it was dismissed in late Aug. From the articles wording, sounds like there was a settlement made,,,,,,,,,,but reading between the lines

Yeah I also heard the Class Action was dismissed.

But seriously BBB is super easy. I would start a claim through Hyundai corporate first. But then just go to BBB and middle of page is File a Complaint. Then choose the file a complaint and search Hyundai Motor Company. The website will then ask if you're wanting to file a lemon law. It will ask you basic questions to make sure you're eligible under your state law. You'll create an account and a coupe days later you'll receive an email on how to upload your docs. You'll need your contract, registration and all your service orders. That's it, upload and few days later you should be in contact with someone. Maybe an hour to 2 spent providing that info and uploading my docs.

But like I said, make sure you have an open claim with Hyundai already and state what you are wanting.

Thanks you much, really helps. I am going to try and trade mine today, looking at a GV80. If they do not offer fair deal, will probably go BBB route. Found out my dealer has lemon lawed two to date, and mine is far worse now that they opened up teh seats to "clean" them. Not sure it will even be taking on trade. So frustrated with Hyundai at this point, and know Genesis is Hyundai, but having a hard time finding a comparable vehicle at any reasonable price point

For all, I'd mentioned a smell in 22s above. The references I saw to it were in a Facebook Group vice here. As I read some of the posts, people are saying the smell is coming from the vents vice this odor, but the description of it is similar, Don't know, but 3 people were talking about changing filters etc to no avail.

Dang, glad I'm leaving the Pali behind all together now.

I purchased my Palisade Limited Trim with black interior in August 2020. Instead of having a new car smell, the interior has an unpleasant odor, the source of which I am unable to determine. I have checked for leaks, mold, etc. to no avail. I had initially attributed the odor to the fact that the car had only recently arrived in country and had been wrapped in protective covering during transport. However, it has now been months and the odor persists. Due to the weather and driving conditions since purchasing the Palisade, I have not had opportunities to give it a good airing out. Is anyone else experienced this unpleasant odor issue?
We even tried ozoning ours for days and the smell persists, it is enough to gag a person! I have a very keen sense of smell, but my husband doesn’t smell anything and he says it stinks. After sitting in the hot sun, it’s enough to make you puke!

I think I found the main source of my odor that is still present in the car. The first headrest I did was still damp when I reassembled it and so it was still giving off the odor really bad. I'm going to remove ALL the head rests this evening and see what I have in the morning. I'm sure there will be some residual smell but it always seems to go away within a minute or two after getting and driving the car. It only seems to come back after it has been sitting for awhile and the heat does seem to make it worse.

I was doing some research on how to eliminate odors and I use Griot's Garage to care for my cars, so I went to them first to see what they offered and I found this Odor Exterminator. The only downside is that the shipping from them is kind of high unless you buy $59 worth of stuff to get free shipping but they have a 180 day 100% Satisfaction Guarantee that they stand by as I have used it before. I decided to check Amazon to see if they had something similar and I found Biocide Systems Auto Shocker which appears to be the exact same thing and I think Griot's just has them make a private label for them. The active ingredient in it is ClO2 which is Chlorine Dioxide which from reading about it and watching a video about it is 100% safe to use and leaves behind a slight chlorine smell that will dissipate over a short period of time. I think I am going to go this route regardless as I would rather smell chlorine for a few days then have to smell garlic :)

From the company's website:

Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is a potent odor -eliminating gas with strong oxidizing properties. An "oxidizing agent" removes electrons from reactive molecules. By this process, ClO2 uses oxygen to break up the odor quickly neutralizes it. Chances are that you've used oxygen before: "Oxi-Clean" is an example of oxygen use that cleans.
Unlike most other chemical deodorizers, Chlorine Dioxide degrades very quickly into too simple salts and water (often within hours and in direct sunlight within seconds). Under the best conditions, it is unlikely to last even a few days. As a product, it has no shelf life. That means that you can't just buy some ClO2 in a bottle. And for that reason has never really been available to consumers.
I tried that too, only worked for a couple days

I haven't seen this discussed before. Does anyone know if this "Nappa Leather" in the Limited Palisades with this smell problem is actually a "Vegan Leather?" From the internet: Vegan leather is often made from polyurethane. It can also be made from sustainable materials such as pineapple leaves, cork, apple peels, other fruit waste, and recycled plastic. And:
---------------------
WHAT DOES VEGAN LEATHER SMELL LIKE?
Vegan/Faux leather that is made with PVC or PU often has a very strange smell from the chemicals. It’s often described as a 'fishy' smell and can often be very hard to get rid especially while trying not to ruin the material. PVC can also outgas dangerous toxins that give off this nasty smell.
---------------------

Sounds like the problem with these seats is the choice to use Vegan Leather.

Napa leather is made from real cowhide with a soft supple feel due to it's tanning process. Napa leather is used on the "seating surfaces" in the up optioned Palisades the balance is man made faux leather. The seat cushions are molded from urethane. There is no way in the modern world to build a car plastic free. A wooden ox cart would solve that problem but the oxen have their own gassing off process;

Right, no one is disputing what you are saying. However, consider this, every other auto manufacturer for decades is able to manufacture leather seats that actually smell pleasant, you know, like, LEATHER. Unlike Hyundai, which has somehow managed to produce leather seats that smell like a mixture of garlic and dirty socks.

I know everything.
Evidence 1. Even after replacing the headrest, it smells.
->It's not a headrest problem.
Evidence 2. The Korean version of the palisade does not smell.
-> it is not a leather sheet and headrest problem. There was a problem in the process of assembling seats at the North American Palisade Plant (Hyundai Motor Plant 2).
I infer that there was a problem in the process of putting the car seat in the car (the coating was peeled off due to leather damage caused by the collision, and the odor inside flows through the peeled coating).
So the conclusion can be the ultimate solution only through the process of changing the seat itself or coating the seat surface itself again.

I thought all palisades are built in Korea?

No. HYUNDAI factory 4 makes Palisade for going to Korea. and factory 2 makes for .U.S.A.
I think something is lost in translation here…
1. All Palisade are manufactured in South Korea.
2. There are 2 different plants making Palisades in South Korea (both located at the Ulsan site). One makes the US models, the other makes Korean models.

What @desperado437 is saying is that only US models have had this problem.

So if ordering new head rests solves the issue, is this solved for brand new vehicles? As in they know what the problem was and now all head rests are good?

Or, do new cars rolling off the line still possibly have this which would also mean new headrests won't always fix it?

I have a Palisade on order and I'm scared. Haha.
I had 1st and 2nd row headrest changed. Dealer said they could not do the 3rd row headrest. It was better for a bit, but as soon as it turns hot 78 + degrees it starts to smell again, but not as strong. Bought my car in Feb 2020. Today 2-23-22 still have a problem.

Sorry you are having difficulty. My Dealer worked with me and my Corporate Rep. The only issue is that it just took so long to get the Headrests in. My wife noticed a slight odor yesterday, so I will give it a week or so to see if it is still a problem. All in all, it is no where near as bad as it was...however, I want zero smell. I will update after a week or so.
Only my 1st and 2nd row of headrest were replaced. When it gets warm I still smell the odor, but not as strong.. I will ask to have the 3rd row headrest replaced maybe this will solve my smelly Palisade.
