Sadly, after getting all 7 headrest replaced, the odor is NOT GONE. I simply just deal with it at this time. After 2 failed treatments and headrest replacement, I thing the odor is coming from other parts of the seats. I just keep the windows down in the garage to keep the vehicle aired out so I do not smell it. Make no mistakes, the odor is still there if the vehicle is closed tight over night. Overall, I love the vehicle. I can not say I would recommend buying it knowing this problem! I would choose a different vehicle.
I'm so sorry to hear about that. Do you know what was the production date on those headrests?

Have not been on for some time, Got 7 new headrests, five were good, two smelled, sent them back, after a month was told by dealer that Hyundai refused to send any more, so live with a car with only five headrests or put the smelly ones back in.

I sent a e-mail to the lawyer Anne Regan and we have a appointment tomorrow to talk. She was mentioned by others in this forum to contact so I did.

I was told that there are about 20,000 Palisade with the smell problem! It is going to take a lawyer to get Hyundai off their ass and fix this, or take this smelly vehicle back.

Thanks for letting us know. Maybe we should combine the smell and wind noise issues together when contacting the lawyer. Makes a stronger case for either a complete fix or option to buy back or trade in.

Which two were the smelly ones? Is there anyway you can tell the production date? It’s usually on the box, so you might not be able to tell. I was told by my dealer that the good ones are after production date of November 2020.

The two on the outside of the third row. I asked the dealer(who has been wonderful) if they would ask Hyundai if anything else was made by the headrest company that made the smelly ones and Hyundai refused to tell them. Once in a while I smell the bad odor and I think it is coming for another location in the SUV but can not pin point where it is coming from.

I just bought a 2021 Palisade Limited AWD black nappa interior and in just the few days that I've owned it the interior smells like some form of garlic, bologna that's been sitting in the sun. The smell seems to be much worse up front or the the front seats. It's horrible! I bought activated charcoal and it hasn't diminished the smell one bit. I have it in my garage and after opening and closing the doors a few times the whole garage smells, it even follows you into the house. I wish I would have known about this issue before I bought this car. I'm incredibly disappointed!
I have the 2021 Black Limited with the light Nappa leather interior. Same issue. Smells like garlic! Went in the the dealer for my 7500 oil change/tire rotation two days ago and begged them to eliminate the smell. They said they performed a headrest cleaning procedure. The next morning when I opened the door to get in.......GARLIC SMELL! Not sure if they did anything at all or if they do not know how to fix it! Some internet publications say the headrests need to be replaced. Maybe the seats too! I'll be contacting the dealer again.

The smell is from ALL the head rests covers, not just the second row. If you remove the covers from the headrests you can easily tell that it is in the covers themselves. When they get wet, the smell intensifies and gets even worse. Just washing them alone will not remove the smell and really only makes it worse as I found out. So far, the best solution is to soak and or wash the headrest covers in OdoBan as it will totally kill the smell. For those of you not wanting to remove the headrest covers, I would recommend mixing up a solution of OdoBan and water in a 5 gallon bucket. Put 32oz of OB in 4 gallons of water and dunk the headrests in there for a few hours and then you will want to rinse them with clean water and then let the headrests dry outside or you could put them in the dryer on low heat if you have a shoe rack that came with your dryer. I think that alone will help mitigate the smell and make your Palisade smell fresh and clean in the process. You can also try the Chlorine Dioxide treatment called Auto Shocker.

The OdoBan can be found at most Home Depot's and the Auto Shocker can be found on Amazon. These two remedies together have been found to be pretty effective at destroying the smell and making your vehicle enjoyable to drive again.
I say we leave this procedure up to the Hyundai dealers!!!

I've had all my headrests, but the driver and passenger seats, out for months and the smell persists. My driver, passenger, and 2nd row seat headrests don't smell. Only My 3rd row seat headrests are the ones that really smell and I believe the third row seats themselves are where the persist smell in the vehicle is coming from. I think, since the 3rd row seats are simply designed, Hyundai sub contracted their manufacture to another cheap company who used smelly foam to make the seats and headrests. If it wasn't so labor intensive I'd remove my 3rd row seats and prove myself right. Hyundai isn't going to step up and change out seats. They thought they could placate customers with a BS Febreeze treatment and possibly new headrests. Now they won't even replace the headrests. My sales person contacted me after my purchase and as soon as I mentioned the smell issue he hung up. Maybe a Class Action Lawsuit will get some resolution. If people got ill from the smell Hyundai would be all over this to fix it!

Mine is in the shop right now to fix the wind noise and also the smell. They told me they are doing the recommended cleaning. Which I believe is just febreeze. It’s not going to work. The wife will not drive the car with the smell the way it is. So not sure what we are gonna do now. I emailed the lawyer in Minnesota, but they never called me back.

I've had my headrests replaced (after the two cleaninigs, a 3rd visit to verify issue, and 4th to replace headrests....which took 3 hours?????). There is no doubt it helped the issue, but there still is a signifigant smell. I just took it back, and Hyundai had them detail the interior. Guess they are thinking "Hey is it looks good, they will not notice had bad it stinks". I've reached out to the law firm as well, no reply. I am starting to look for a replacement vehicle....very hard because the Palisade is best of market except for smell.

That’s the main issue….. Is what do we do when their “fixes” don’t work??? My wife is going to start driving the Palisade in a few weeks and her nose is much more sensitive than mine. The smell makes her sick almost even though it seems to go away pretty quickly. But for $50k we shouldn’t have to sit in a stinky car. I also have a number for a lemon law attorney. We might try that route as well. It’s just tough because the only other thing she likes is the Aviator and those are more expensive.

Carvana paid me over $48k for my Limited 2020 with 12K miles. More than I paid for the vehicle 16 months ago. That was my resolution.
This the way to go honestly instead of all this headache. I'm using my vehicle till I find something I like to buy. No one should have to deal with all this crap (smell, wind noise, and what not)!

Agreed. But when something is faulty and can’t be corrected, we should be able to return it for full value minus usage (miles). It’s not our fault Hyundai used crappy part of gas bad quality control.

Apparently, it was resolved later on. Fortunately, my 02/21 built Calligraphy doesn't have that pesky odor.

I live in Florida I would have smelt it by now if I had it.... I hope. LOL
