Oil and Filter Change

I'm a fan of DIY oil and filter changes. YouTube has several videos of people doing oil and filter changes on their Hyundai products. Several of these videos showed small trap door cutouts for the oil filter and oil pan bolt in the shrouding underneath the plastic . Has anyone noticed if the Palisade has these cutouts? I was under the Palisade but I didn't notice them. I saw the videos after my under-car exploration.

Did you ever find out or check? @Clemson
No reply from anyone on the Forum and I haven't had time to crawl underneath and do a careful check. I'm assuming you're looking for an answer also? Watching the YouTube videos made it look like a piece of cake with not having to remove any panels with their 8-10 screws and clips. I also asked in a Telluride Forum but no reply.

Yep determining if I will do the changes myself or just pay which I read are every 7500 miles? Seems like a lot. But not complaining if so
I agree. The money savings is minimal but I get a certain amount of pleasure from doing this myself since that and changing tires (hopefully seldom) is about all I can do on a modern new car!
Yes, for "normal" service Hyundai recommends 7,500 miles. However, I do plan on having it changed the first time at about 1,000 miles.

I changed mine this morning. It was easy. I will be getting a fumoto drain valve for the future however to make it faster and cleaner. Currently only the "base" oil filters are out and are good for 5,000 miles. Once they start making the synthetic oil filters for this more mainstream I will be switching for sure. Also, I was a Mobil One fan for years. However I am now a Super Tech oil fan which is also the same as Amazon basics synthetic oil. Made by Warren distribution. You tube some video comparisons and you will be quite happy with the results. 5 quart jug is less than $15 at walmart.

Takes 7 quarts by the way and will be changing out every 5000 like my Toyota Tacoma and all my others.
When you get the Fumoto drain valve please post the part number. I've had several Honda Odyssey's in the past and the valve works great. I found the Amazon Basics oil but the specs. say "dexos1 Gen 2, API SN Plus, and ILSAC GF-5 approved ". The Palisade spec. requires ACEA A5/B5, so I'm not sure if they are equivalent.

I am waiting to hear from the company on which part number. I will update when I find out. Regarding specs I am not really concerned. For example Chrysler spec is not met by Mobil One synthetic but I used it in my Hemi and it performed great. Alot of times it is just the company has not submitted it for testing. I will also keep you updated on thoughts on this oil going forward.

Also, check your oil levels as my Palisade with 4600 miles on its first oil change only 5 quarts or so was removed!
My only concern, and I realize it's very low risk, is the fact that if there is a motor related warranty issue and for whatever reason, Hyundai wants to lab test the oil, I wouldn't want them to deny a claim based on not using specified oil. Again, I know it's a low risk probability.
I did my own first oil change at 1,000 miles and it took very little time. It took 6.5 qts on refill which includes the oil filter.
Thanks for the part number when you do confirm it.

YouTube now has a video specific to the Palisade. Not much different from the video of the oil change for the Telluride. He also discusses the Fumoto valve.

I installed K&N filter and Fumoto valve F106SX yesterday - video below. That said not entirely happy with angle of valve as sticks out just below the splash guard (had to notch it to get it to fit). I have since realized will always have to remove splash guard to get to oil filter case so will likely rotate Fumoto valve toward passenger side and see if that gets if above the splash guard.

Please let us know if your proposed change does the job!
