New here and thinking of buying a 22 or 23 Palisade but I have some questions

Let me start by apologizing for any stupid questions I ask but I'm an old guy with a bad back and probably buying my last vehicle.
I have searched the threads here and discussions about road and cabin noise and it would appear (maybe because I was looking for it). I have owned Toyota Highlanders for many years and have not been exceedingly unhappy with them so far but one of the things I value in a vehicle is quietness and a smooth ride. I liked the 4Runner but knew the suspension would be stiffer. I have champagne taste and a beer pocket. I would imagine if I could afford an Escalade I would likely get the quietness and smooth ride I seek. Highlanders had a soft ride but were not particularly cabin quiet. So I have a few questions. Has anyone made a ride softness comparison between the Palisade and more luxurious vehicles or even Highlanders? Is there any difference in the ride or quietness between the various levels of Palisade?
I have been reading about adding fin like additions to the sideview mirrors to quiet wind noise but there is also the issue of road noise which may be a function of the tires. Nowadays I hear that there are audio systems with noise cancelling ability to counteract road and cabin noise.
So can I hear from people who can suggest to me whether the ride is as soft as the Toyota Highlander and how effective is the Palisade's soundproofing. I have heard that in the higher models the windows are made more soundproof and I am not particularly happy with Toyotas when it comes to a quiet cabin.
I value and respect the opinions in this group after lurking and reading as much as I could.
Thanks in advance to all contributors

I’ve got a new 24 Calligraphy just delivered and have zero wind noise problems. So presume they have it sorted for new builds. Also missed the recall.

Its soft enough and plenty quiet for me. My suggestion, go drive one with the explicit purpose of finding out. Drive over the same road with the car you have or are comparing.

Thank you chh2tx. I grew up in an era where asian cars were rattle traps while USA made cars were soft riding and quiet. I guess all that has changed. Do yo think that the 24 has superior noise treatment over the 23? I need to look at what features have changed or been added. I tend to be very critical of noise because I absolutely love listening to music. My 2021 Highlander gets way noisy over 55mph.

23 Caligraphy here. The seats are very plush and comfy IMHO. Bad back you may like the Ergomotion drivers seat, my wife and I love it.

We have no wind noise issues (ours was built June 2022, one of the first). The cabin is quieter than I expected given it’s size. I have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis, and its cabin is definitely quieter, but for a non-luxury brand the Palisade is very good. Both the front and rear door windows are laminated sound glass on the Caligraphy models. Though some people report they have hazy rear windows on these models which appears to be tied to the combination of factory tinting and Laminate glass.

As far as ride quality, it’s certainly tuned for smooth handling, soaking up bumps and highway cruising. It’s definitely not stiff. Remember the Palisade and Telluride both originated off of Hyundai’s minivan platform also used in the Kia Carnival😑 So it’s more car than truck.

just like my Highlander was based on the Camry chassis so it is a relatively soft riding suv but I keep seeing threads discussing noise in the current year so that worries me. The dealers all seem to say it's "normal". I would hate to spend over 50k for a car when I can't enjoy Pink Floyd!

Speaking of Pink Floyd. The Harmon Kardon system in the 23+ is only a bit better than average. At lower volumes it lacks “body” and oomph in the sound. But get it up past 50 (70 is max volume level) and it comes alive. It’s like the amp (which is under the front passenger seat) doesn’t kick in till the volume gets fairly loud. I prefer listening to my music loud, so it’s ok for me and my wife just doesn’t care really about audio quality and it is leaps better than our old base Subaru Legacy audio. But the Lexicon system in my Genesis blows it away and has presence at all volume levels.

I also enjoy a comfortable and quiet ride in my vehicles. I have a 21 Palisade that I bought new. In that vehicle search I compared the Palisade closely to the 21 Highlander. I found the ride on both vehicles to be relatively the same. Exactly what to expect from a larger premium, non luxury SUV “family hauler”. Road noise between the 2 vehicles was also very similar with maybe a slight edge to the Palisade. I was coming from an entry level luxury sedan, a Lincoln MKZ and I noticed considerable more road noise in both of these SUV’s when compared to the sedan and I must admit that I still miss that quietness of that vehicle. SUV‘s naturally will be noisier due to the design, however more than make up for it in the increased functionality. Also of note I found the ride quality of the 20 inch versus the 18 inch Palisade models to be almost the same. I definitely would have paid more to have my model equipped with 18 inch wheels, if I felt that ride quality had deteriorated to any extent.

I had a Hyundai Genesis 2016 prior to my 21 Palisade Limited. I feel it road much better, was much quieter, and had much better seats. I recently drove a 21 Durango and felt it was quieter and certainly punchier, and felt the seats superior.. I would rate the Palisade average for quietness, build quality good, bang for buck good. Almost bought a 20 Telluride but preferred the Palisade.

I picked up my 2023 Palligraphy on 9/15/22 and have put about 6K miles on it. I have experienced none of the commonly mentioned problems we find here, I count myself fortunate. I do have the somewhat hazy rear windows but could not care less, in 11 months I have yet to sit there and have not had a single 2nd row passenger mention it. My ears and the rest of me are 80 years old and any volume setting above 40 is too loud and it sounds pretty darned good . I have been getting 28.5 MPG on our Wisconsin 55MPH roads going 60. City driving I am getting just over 21 MPG. I paid an embarrassing market adjusted price to get my vehicle and have never regretted it.

Go for it.

I have very similar views relating to good quality audio as yourself. I find the Harmon Kardon system on the Palisade to be , simply stated, ….Ok and is definitely not audiophile level. The HK system cannot be compared to my previous Lincoln, which again I would not qualify as audiophile level but was definitely better. Road noise is not the issue. it’s a basic low cost audio system that is found in most premium vehicles sold today and cannot be compared to audio systems in the luxury vehicle segment. To compensate I tend to listen to podcasts on my longer drives which I thoroughly enjoy. I leave my more critical music listening to my home systems. Again I need to stress for the sum of all aspects, the Palisade is my best vehicle I have ever owned and it will be the top of my list in my next vehicle search.

For a cavernous, mass-produced vehicle with a sunroof the Palisade has excellent body integrity. No squeaks or rattles, even in Canadian winters.

Wind noise is low in our 2022 model, contrary to known issues in earlier years.

The only flaw in my opinion is noisy OEM tires. I swear, my Continental VikingContact winter tires are quieter.

Overall I doubt you'll do better at this price point.

Yeah, the Hankook Ventus S1 noble2 that come on most are not very highly rated overall, on all factors including noise and are particularly poor in winter/snow conditions. It is not hard at all to find a better all around seasonal tire and with better comfort/noise included. These have been my biggest disappointment.

I bought a 22 calligraphy. I had a 2016 which got me thru 3 wrecks. None of them mine or my husbands fault. Rear ended twice ( both offenders were impaired), and hit in the side in a round-about. The last one totaled it. Anyway, I had had Toyotas for many years and just decided it was time for a change. I researched and find that Hyundai had an excellent rating especially in safety. I have some back issues so I used an additional back cushion in my highlighter. The seats in my palisade are much more supportive and I don’t need a cushion when I drive. I like the features in the palisade better than the highlander. All this being said, my car still has the recall which will be fixed in a week. Also, it has a thumbing in the rear which they think are the struts. That should also be fixed in a week. If nothing else happens to the car, I would buy another palisade. Good luck

No wind noise with my 22 Palisade SEL. The only noise is from the OEM tires (Bridgestone Duelers) on certain road surfaces--quiet on most surfaces. My palisade is driven mostly highway driving--very quiet, comfortable, and smooth ride. Far exceeded our expectations for our first Hyundai (20k miles now). FYI, the Telluride has a stiffer ride and less comfortable seats.

I have a 2021 Palisades Limited and I think this is the best riding SUV. I have driven and ridden in Friends Lexus, BMW and Mercedes and think this is the smoothest. I have no problem with wind noise and have been cross country with this car three times. The car ride smooth at any speed including in Utah with the speed limit is 80 mph and everyone is going between 95 and 100. The only thing I'm unhappy with is the navigation. I had a Ford Flex and when you push the speaker button you could do many more options. I'm talking about setting the temperature in the car by voice turning on and off the wipers by voice. Other than that I love my Hyundai and would highly recommend it.

Is that something added later? As I can in mine.
‘fan hi’ ‘lower the temperature’ ‘set the temperature to 72 degrees’ etc.

I have a 2021 Palisade for which I traded a Highlander because the Highlander rattled a little. I like the Palisade, particularly all the safety features but it is definitely noisier and harsher riding than the Highlander. I don't get the wind noise that everyone is talking about but definitely get transmitted road and body noises. If I had known this I would have looked for something else.

Hi nitecapt, I don't consider myself an old guy but I'm a few months from 70 so I might be getting close. I have a 2021 Palisade Limited - had it three years as of August 5th. Very happy with it. I have had an Explorer, two Pathfinders and a Tahoe. I am very happy with the Palisade - especially the warranty! Can't beat 5 years bumper to bumper and ten year powertrain. Plus, Hyundai has never questioned any warranty work, just scheduled it and fixed it - and I'm a nitpicker. No significant issues, probably things others would not be aware of. They did replace the "head unit" when my audio system acted up - a $3000.00 part, but no problems covering it. I think the Palisade is quite quiet, better than my other SUVs. No, I don't have any significant hearing loss (yet). Slight wind noise but less than anything else I have had. There is a Tech Service Bulletin out at least for the earlier years for wind noise - I had it applied and it helped some. I think the ride is very comfortable - stable but not stiff. Corners nicely without excessive body roll. I really like the heads-up display in the windshield! Most of the safety stuff is worthwhile and works well. A few are a little too "nanny" but not terrible.
Hope this helps!

Hey! Don't hesitate on choosing the Palisade. My 2023 Calligraphy has no wind noises, no rattles of any kind, and an impressively smooth riding. This is my first Korean car and is definitely a very high quality and excellent build car, in my opinion, even better than my previous Mazda and Acura. I can't be happier. When you take a deep look into all the technology on the Palisade and comfort, is much better than my friend's new BMW Q5. The Palisade has many details that makes it a really nice car to drive and ride. Can't wait for a long road trip on this car.

I have a 2022 Limited, and its one of the quietest cars I've owned beyond our VW EV, and maybe our Pacifica PHEV when it was in EV mode.

Its very quiet, cushy, and a lot more luxury than most expect from a Hyundai. I helped convince a neighbor of mine who ended up buying a 23 calligraphy after having had Audi and MB SUV's as her last 2 vehicles.

We have had no wind noise issues.
Maybe the tires could be a little quieter.
And if you get a slightly lower trim you will get 18" wheels instead of 20's which would help the cushy ride even more.

We just went on a 3200+ mile roundtrip from the PNW to MN, and at no time was it uncomfortable, loud, or tiring to sit in for even 8-9hrs in a single day.

IMO its a way nicer, comfortable, and quieter ride than our 2013 Highlander Hybrid Limited was.

We're on our second calligraphy. We had a 22 and now we have a 24 and the 24 is outstanding in quietness in the cabin and the ride is extremely smooth and very tight. Love it!!!

My wife and I have owned over 100 new automobiles, including virtually every SUV brand on the market, including Mercedes, BMW, etc.
We are on our second Palisade having on day 2020 in our 2022, with a 2024 on order. We believe it is the best bang for the buck out there as far as a near luxury SUV goes any road noise we have experienced had more to do with the tires than the car, and didn’t show up until the tires were well worn. We initially had problems in 2020 with wind noise which happened to be misalignment of the drivers window guide inside the door. Once fixed no problem.
Although there are SUVs out there that you may like better than a Palisade, I suspect it would cost you 20 grand or more for the privilege.
