Having a difficult time using Car Play. When I bring up the CarPlay main menu screen, I select iHeart radio (for example) nothing happens. If I ask Siri to play iHeart Radio, it starts playing, but no ability to change channels from the menu screen, it’s blank. If I select the Media button, it still says playing Pandora (which I was using previously) but the audio is actually iHeart. Is the iHeart Radio app just not integrated well with CarPlay?

I also seem to have 4 different Navigation system available; the one built in to the Palisade, the Apple Maps (native to the iphone, Google Maps and Waze. Is there advantages to any? Sometimes it isn’t even clear to me which one is active.

I haven't used iHeartRadio in CarPlay, so I don't know how well that one is integrated. But have you tried other apps, like Spotify, Apple Music, etc... to see if those work fine?

As to the nav, if you're on the car's user interface, you're using the built-in nav. If you're in CarPlay, the one on the home screen is Apple Maps (although it can now be changed to be something else) and you have access to other apps as well, such as Google Maps, and Waze.

The car's built-in nav has the advantage of showing you turn-by-turn directions in the heads-up display and digital cluster (if you have these features). The others can't do that. Assuming you've done the map updates, it is now very good. It does server-based routing via Blue Link and takes traffic into account.

Of course, cell phone apps are also always using internet routing, and are therefore more or less up-to-date. They can also account for traffic. You lose the HUD integration and, in my experience, the user interface doesn't react as fast as the built-in nav, which can matter when you're looking for a specific street. Waze offers the user-reported police traps and alerts, which Apple and Google don't.

If you don't care about how much cellular data you use, it's fun to use Google Maps in satellite view at least once, particularly in a city. Not something I'd do on a regular basis though, considering the data that requires.

You will never get CarPlay to work wirelessly on a Calligraphy because it doesn’t support it.

Of course, you can buy an adapter like the CarPlay2Air, which works well and is very convenient since you don’t have to plug your phone in.

I also have programmed my star (favorite) button to CarPlay so it’s easier to get back to it if I have navigated away from it.
