It’s rare that I have passengers in my Palisade

The only passengers I ever carry are my German Shepherds. So obviously, they’re typically loaded into the vehicle from either the driver side rear door or the rear hatch rarely do I open the passenger door or the passenger rear door.

Went to lunch with some people from work today couldn’t open the passenger rear door

Everybody piled in from the other side

When we got back to the office, I was finally able to get the passenger side rear door open and this is what I found

Automotive tire Hood Automotive design Car Grey

One missing, two that have backed out, seemingly vibrated loose

I screwed those two back in, by the way it’s a torx-27 driver.

apparently, this is a specialty screw, so I got on one of the OEM Hyundai parts websites and it looks like it’s going to cost me about 25 bucks for the part. The screw is only $2.00, shipping is 20 bucks.

Funny! Those same screws on my passenger rear door were so tight that their torx head stripped out when I tried to remove them while adding sound deadener. I cussed, then put on some silver touch up paint to prevent rust.

Torx head stripped? It's fairly easy to do when someone uses the wrong size tool. Were you using a 27 or did you try to get by with a 25?

Or.. an allen wrench? Unless the "bolt" is made from some cheap material the right sized wrench, properly seated.. is unlikely to strip the head.

The three on the door is a T30 Torx and the two on the loop latch are a T40 Torx.

Thanks. I just checked my 23 with some actual bits and you are absolutely correct. I was only going by what Mr. UNcredible said in his original post about it being a 27. It seemed that he did his research, but I should have checked! My bad. I guess it isn't such a specialized bit after all.

Three of six T30's on the back doors tightened by 1/4 turn (all six front T30's were snug) and all four of the T40's on the passenger side strikers moved about 1/8 turn. (None stripped ;)). Somewhat concerning that these were not properly torqued from the factory. I have no idea what the actual torque should be, but some were clearly looser than others so I gave them a 'hard snug'. Moral of the story: check yours if you have the (correctly sized) tools handy.
