I have been frustrated for a while that there is only on data port. I have a USB stick with music and I plug in my phone for android auto and it was annoying to constantly switch between them.

I had read that splitters don't work but I ordered the one below and tried it tonight and it works! You can only use one at a time but at least I'm not constantly plugging and unplugging.

Let me know if you have a better solution and I hope this helps. I'm sure there are other brands with a similar product.

USB 3.0 Switch Selector, Bi-Directional USB Switch 2 in 1 Out / 1 in 2 Out, YINNCEEN USB Switcher Adapter for Keyboard Mouse Scanner Printer, USB KVM Switch Compatible with Mac/Windows/Linux

USB switch on amazon
There are usb slots under the center console and under the infotainment hidden area for your phone

Only the port inside the center console will work for data, all other usb ports in the vehicle are for power only.

i am using the Carlinkit dongle (similar to Moto one) it supports both Car play and AA. Its working perfectly now for us, no need to plug in phone or USB and still get all our music with us (Mine and wife's phone are synced)

There is a dongle now made by Motorola that gives you wireless Android Auto. I've used it and it works pretty well. It takes a minute to connect once you get in the car, but so far it's been working for me. This way I don't ever have to plug my phone in...or I can plug it into a higher amperage port so that it will charge while running AA and google maps.

there are a dozen of these out there:

Moto
ottobox
magicbox
Carlinkit

and many others ranging from $50-$400 depending on the features.

they are all Android based devices running older Android operating systems.

I have tried a few, they work well overall, but they are not without their issues, the most annoying being a 2 second lag in phone conversations and occasionally not reconnecting on startup, especially if you use remote start and your phone is too far away, this screws up the units boot up, then requires you to unplug and re-plug it back in.

In-built Apple Carplay and Android Auto are the best, these aftermarket dongles do not come close to the smoothness and convenience of when the systems are natively embedded in the infotainment system Kia and Hyundai should hurry up already and put them in their new cars and upgrade older cars..

Hyundai and Kia have had apple car play and android auto since 2017, but they are wired, not wireless.

wireless carplay or android require a wi-fi hotspot, it does not broadcast over Bluetooth as BT doesn't have the bandwidth for it.

wireless carplay or android auto in any form has a lag, period, doesn't matter if it is built in like GM and BMW or a doggle like the ones I listed above.

personally, I have no interest in paying $50 or more per month to a car manufacturer for the privilege of using their antiquated wi-fi system, since most are at least 2 years out of date when the new model year comes out.

"Driving has never been as fun as in the 2023 ELANTRA. Drivers can access their favorite mobile apps with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™." (Google is your friend!)

My daughter has a 22 Carnival with Wireless AA. It is the base model, without the wi-fi hotspot (at least not on her model). I believe some other Hyundai/KIA models have wireless AA.CP, but not on the 12.3" units.

I have the Motorola MA1 in my 23 Cali and if there is a lag I don't notice it. I would buy it again in a heartbeat... if mine ever dies, I'll get another!

there is still some type of wi-fi router or adhoc system in the vehicle, wireless carplay requires a wi-fi connection, doesn't need an internet connection, but it has to have some type of wi-fi router that put the phone and car on the same network.

that is how carplay and AA work, period, there is no way around it. all of these aftermarket devices, like ottocast, magicbox, moto, etc all create an adhoc wi-fi connection between the car and the phone.

The devices create an ad-hoc wifi connection between the phone and themself. Those devices act as the hotspot. The car does not need to be on a wifi network with the box since the device and the car communicate over the USB connection.

yeah I said that.
No, you said "have some type of wi-fi router that put the phone and car on the same network". With these devices the car is NOT on the network. The cars builtin WIFI is not used. What you said is true when the car has wireless AA or carplay. Those devices we are discussing here are not routers. Of course maybe I am being too specific.

Full disclosure: you also said "Hyundai and Kia have had apple car play and android auto since 2017, but they are wired, not wireless. " That is not true. Period.
what is not true about it, carplay and AA have been on some Hyundai model since 2017, all models that have Carplay or AA are wired, some may have wireless (I was unaware that hyundai had wireless on any model pre-2023) but my statement is true, Carplay and AA have been available since 2016, Hyundia started adding it to models in 2017.

Wow... that's incredible! (Pun intended)
