I have been frustrated for a while that there is only on data port. I have a USB stick with music and I plug in my phone for android auto and it was annoying to constantly switch between them.

I had read that splitters don't work but I ordered the one below and tried it tonight and it works! You can only use one at a time but at least I'm not constantly plugging and unplugging.

Let me know if you have a better solution and I hope this helps. I'm sure there are other brands with a similar product.

USB 3.0 Switch Selector, Bi-Directional USB Switch 2 in 1 Out / 1 in 2 Out, YINNCEEN USB Switcher Adapter for Keyboard Mouse Scanner Printer, USB KVM Switch Compatible with Mac/Windows/Linux

Thanks for sharing, been looking for something that can work for CarPlay and having option to play music from USB.

Going to try this to see if works

um, why not just load the music on the android phone? seems pointless to have flash drive and a phone since the phone has the ability to handle the music and be recognized as a flash drive.
With over 100gb of music my phone doesn't have enough space. It is only 128gb and 51gb of stuff with no music. If it had an sd slot this would be a good solution but my phone doesn't.

I loaded all my music onto an SD card have the SD card in my phone.
If my phone had an sd card reader I would for sure do this. I will have to look for this on my next phone. I haven't had an SD card reader in year's but my last few phones have been pixels so they might not have them to push you to buy the phones with more memory or to sell cloud storage subscriptions. Thanks for the idea.

This is what I do, On my 2017 Santa Fe Sport,

I have 256GB storage on the Samsung Galaxy 20 Ultra 5G (can add more storage as it has an expandable tray), plus I use AA Wireless so no need to plug my phone. Works flawlessly.

who needs 100gb of music?

I have 7,543 songs on my iphone in lossless and that's about 35gb.

sorry I just don't get the need for 15,000 to 20,000 songs. that's like 35-45 days of music if you are listening to it 24/7

heck I don't even need the 7,500 songs I have, just an auto sync from Itunes.

Valid point for Android Auto, not an option for iPhone/CarPlay. And it’s PITA to add your own music to iPhone
um, no it isn't. completely wireless sync now. if it's on your computer and your computer and phone on same wi-fi it is completely handsfree and wireless. As long as you have iTunes on the phone and PC/Mac configured correctly.

I have ~7,500 songs from my iTunes library going back years that stay in sync with my home pc and phone whenever I am on my home Wi-Fi.

When I add music to either the phone via purchase from iTunes or the PC via ripping from a CD or purchase, it syncs to both devices, actually syncs to my iPhone my 2 ipads, my daughters iPhone, used to sync to my wife's when we were married. syncs to any of the 5 authorized devices and authorized family members in the apple family plan.

Sounds interesting. Does the S20 store and play flac and wav files? I have an S20 with plenty of SD card memory space open for my music. This sounds like a great solution.

(note to self: remember to hit enter after typing!)

What is your backup strategy for those 100GB+ of music? Are they solely in the USB drive? Or do you have secondary storage somewhere that store those files? Do you regularly update them?

The reason I ask is because I used to load all music into SD card and play through my Android head unit (in my old car). However, it gets tiring when I have to bring it in the house and add new files every time I have new songs. That also require me to make sure to keep track of the folder structure between the USB and storage location so that I don't just add duplicate files.

My current solution: host an Unraid server with Plex docker. Plex has other version for windows/mac/linux as well. All you need is a dedicated machine to host the program. Then my phone is using Plexamp as music player, and play them through Android Auto. Basically you would have your own music streaming service (just like Spotify).

I am now free of worry about managing music, and it is available anywhere as long as I have access to the internet. Plexamp also allows you to cache download songs for offline music as well (you set the limit of how much you want it to pre-download before hand when connect to wi-fi). If I have new songs, all I have to do is drop them in plex folder structure, and it will 99% figure out what the songs are, categorize, etc. At the moment, I have about 10,000+ songs in my library, and most of them are FLAC format. There are songs that I never get to play even when I have the library on shuffle 😅

I don't have anywhere near that many songs. I'm wondering if the file size has to do with the fact that these were ripped from cds so they may not be a compressed down as efficient as they could be. I will have to look into this thanks for the info.

Thanks Mr Incredible, I have got mine and my wife’s phone Synced with our music. No need to use usb anymore other than keeping a copy of the songs. Much better

good to hear, to be honest I haven't touched itunes on my computer in a few years, usually do everything from the phone or ipad, also noticed the music and movies are also on my appleTV devices, the one in my home, in my RV and in my daughter's college dorm 2,000 miles away. all are synced to the same library.

I rip mine as lossless so they are completely uncompressed. and I am at just under 35gb for 7,500 songs.

There is a dongle now made by Motorola that gives you wireless Android Auto. I've used it and it works pretty well. It takes a minute to connect once you get in the car, but so far it's been working for me. This way I don't ever have to plug my phone in...or I can plug it into a higher amperage port so that it will charge while running AA and google maps.
