This is solved if you tap into the wire to the brake light and use that lead along with the existing plug's wires to wire either a 5 flat pin or a round 7 pin connector.

 

I am curious as to how this solves the issue of the car's sensors detecting something behind it and using the brakes to prevent running into it.

 

My apology, I misread your question and thought it related to making the trailer brakes work when you applied the car brakes. The solution to your problem is to select -with the engine on - 'Driver Assistance -> Parking Safety -> Rear Cross-Traffic Safety’ from the Settings menu to turn off the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist.

 

All good, this doesn’t help when I need someone to back my car for me so I can get a boat in the water as there are way to many steps involved to tell someone else how to do it

 

It would be nice if turning on tow mode turned off the rear obstacle detection.

 

Total agree my husband has the Chevrolet and he just sets his to trailer mode, and my last Hyundai Santa Fe also did this not sure when the palisade isn’t the same
