Steering wheel noise

I have a 2021 Palisade Limited with 22,800 miles and on occasion maybe has happened a half dozen to a dozen times when I stop and the steering wheel is straight (tires facing straight forward) and I turn the steering wheel to the right it makes a cracking sound and feels like it locks up for a split second. I have taken it in to the dealer when having the car serviced and they tell me they can't duplicate the problem and haven't heard any other complaints. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm just worried one day while driving it might lock up.

With my 2021 Limited; if I were stopped and tried to turn the wheel as I was preceeding to back up, it would lock briefly if my foot was still on the brake. In my case I learned to release the brakes before initiating the turn. That solved my problem. I'm not sure that will solve your problem.
Could it be? The transmission is designed to split the power to the front and rear wheels, the degree depends on the mode set. If the transmission was "momentarily" in a locked position.. as the vehicle turns all the wheels turn at a different speed and as the locked position is released this could be felt as a snap in the steering wheel.
Just a thought, on a true 4x4 with locking hubs turning on dry pavement creates "real" pops/hops.

My 2020 made a creaking sound when you turned it sometimes. Dealer fixed it under a Hyundai recall.

I don't believe there has been any RECALL about noisy steering, but there is a TSB that replaces a worm gear bearing. I just had it done on my 2020 Pali with 31K miles.

I have 2022 Palisade Limited with just under 22,000 miles. I started having the similar issue around at 20,000 miles and it has happened 6 times so far (the first time was in Oct. 2022). This only happens when the vehicle is in stationary (D with foot on the brake) or moving slowly while holding the footbrake while turning the steering wheel to either direction. It makes a clunking sound and it feels like it locks up for a second, but is released and the issue cannot be duplicated right away. I know for sure that I didn't turn my steering wheel all the way. I just took the vehicle to the dealer today but they couldn't duplicate the problem and haven't heard any other complaints either. They said because it happens intermittently, they can't really help out until they can duplicate the problem on the spot. Unfortunately, it happened again after I got home. Were you able to resolve the issue?

I have the exact same issue. I have the 2021 Caligraphy. Next time I am at at the dealer, I will talk to them about it. Hopefully I can recreate with the service tech sitting in my car.
Interesting... I, all of a sudden have a very occasional "funny" sound/feel as I start backing up while turning the steering wheel sharply. Like all sounds hard to describe but to me.. it's the sound/feel you might expect from a ratchet and pawl. tick---- tick----tick. So far, this has only happened after driving the vehicle for some time so am assuming things need to be up to operating temperature. I have wondered, if I am hearing/feeling the constant velocity knuckles binding/releasing. Will try to narrow this down more because the dealer will just throw up his hands at this point... unless it's a know problem. (2022 with ~29,000 km)

EDIT: I think I can rule out the CV joint theory. Yesterday I had the issue while starting to backup while turning the steering wheel, stopped moving but continued turning the steering wheel. The "tick" occurs about every 15 degrees of turning the steering wheel. My though now is the mechanism that turns off the blinkers/turn signal.
EDIT #2: My "tick" is related to the turn signal, it only "ticks" when the turn signal is on. this may have been there since day one but only recently noticed it.

I have experienced it too; my solution is to get off the brake before attempting a sharp turn from a stop. No more sound.
