I see the option to project something from your phone but can't get anything to mirror from my phone. Can someone shed light on this feature?

What is your phone? If you have an iPhone, the feature is Apple CarPlay. It comes from Apple and it is built into the iPhone. it should just come up.

If you have Android, download the Android Auto app from the Google App Store. It should also just come up if you have it installed (and your phone supports it).

Android auto and Apple car play are different than what I'm asking. There's a projection option that doesn't involve either of these.

No, it's not different. "Phone projection" is what Hyundai calls the ability to use CarPlay and Android Auto. Look in your infotainment manual, section 2-2.
