I have a '22 Palisade Limited. While on the road, heard a small tick against the window. Stopped, checked the windshield and could find nothing. A few days later, it was very hot out. I parked the vehicle outside the garage in front of my home for about 20min. We came out and left for dinner. At that time, the winshield cracked from the left pillar where the glass starts at the edge and is dark colored all the way to the upper center of the windshield. I guess the So Cal heat expaned the glass and make it crack. weak glass? Stressed? Who knows. Contacted Safelite, but it was very difficult to deal with them, especially trying to get a live person (who knows anything). Very frustrating navigating through their AI system. Anyway, they only wanted to install an aftermarket windshield because State Farm tells them all they will pay for is aftermarket and the remaining charge is on the customer. As I understand, the Palisade Limited and Calligraphy has special glass and if you don't order OEM glass, the HUD will not project properly.
Meanwhile, I contacted the nearest Hyundai dealer. They wanted $1836 for the Glass and another $600 for installation. I contacted All Star Glass (also nation wide). No Ai to deal with, talked with a live agent immediately. Knew exactly what I needed and indeed said the OEM glass was better and displayed correclty. They charge $1400 for the same OEM glass plus install and reclaibration. But I am thinking about the next time. Will it be just as easy to crack and destroy the glass again? If so, I would suspect a defect and will be watching very closely. All Star Glass agent told me the OEM glass could only be ordered from the Hyundai dealer. So you can't get it anywhere else. So State Farm would have to flip for the entire bill because of that. Once they reinterrated that fact plus also talked to them about safety concerns, etc. They caved and approved the entire bill and I have zero deductible, so nothing out of pocket.
I also have a 2017 Toyota Tundra that has taken many small hits on the road, and it hasn't failed yet. Gotta be something in the glass design. Too many perople complaining about the same thing.
