I am new here and this is my first post. I LOVE MY CAR, however it stinks like a dead person. After reading, and I mean a lot of reading… I’ve discovered that the “death stench” is a problem that can be addressed at the dealership by way of a TSB. However, the success rate is less than 50%…. My question is, can I replace the entire seating configuration of my 2020 Palisade Limited (2nd row Captain Chairs) with the Genesis GV 80 six person seating configuration? I am assuming the Genesis seating is more plush and comfortable as well which is a HUGE BONUS beyond eliminating the “death stench” attributed to the Leather in my car…. All comments are deeply appreciated.

I have often wondered what a dead person smells like, anything like a dead for a month in August moose? Or more fishy.. ;-). I suspect re-doing the interior would be possible.. but costly.

No Need to replace anything in my opinion, I deal with odors all the time in cars. Find a detailer that uses CLO2 Clorine dioxide for odor removal and he can take care of the problem in one hour.

My 2021 Limited (manufacture date 7/20, delivery 12/20) had moderate garlic odor like many -mainly in rainy weather. I used the Chlorine Dioxide treatment a couple of times over a year and kept a Febreze air freshener in the car. After a year, it's all gone. Amazon has the CLO2 packs pretty cheap.
The last thing I wanted to do was leave it at a dealership a couple of times for what I would consider to be an inadequate fix.

Clo2 tabs are usually 20 gram tabs from most retailers, this said you should buy 3-4 tabs use a gallon bucket and SHOCK treat the vehicle. Using a small fan to push the air around also helps. Park the vehicle inside out of sunlight and treat several hrs or overnight. Will no harm anything and will remove the worst of odors and absolutely this one...!

I just got my "new to me" 2020 Limited last week. NO stink of any kind in mine. I have the Napa leather interior, etc of the Limited.

If this just started for you, as they said above, did an animal get stuck somewhere?

Never had an odor problem. The last few days started to smell
something really bad. Tried to smell the head rests, no odor
I finally did a complete search of the car, we never let the grand children
eat in the Palisade, But we have let them bring stuff home in a bag
after a trip to McDonalds,etc. The third row seat was down and after
bringing it up and looking under the seat. LO and be hold a partially
eaten hamburger appeared to me. Complete with Catsup and this
fuzzy blue stuff growing on it.

29…for sometime now. Never seen any of any of their movies, a bit before my time. Have seen that clip from Dancing in the Rain though. Does that count?🙂

Get a 2020 Palisade and you’ll quickly find out how a dead person smells like

By the time you pay for and have the Genesis seats installed, It would be cheaper to trade it in for a Genesis.
