Oh so you mean Apple Carplay or Android auto. The feature is called phone projection. The apps run off your phone. It doesn't actually add any apps. You confused me when you said that.
And yes, you do need a cable for that to work. To the best of my knowledge, BMW is the only car manufacturer that does wireless Apple Carplay. Not sure they do it for Android.

Well BMW is the only one doing it, so... to be fair, you could have checked the manual before saying it didn't work.
Why would anyone have asked that? You never mentioned Android Auto, or Apple Carplay, or phone projection, or even the word "phone" until I asked you what apps you were "adding".
Adding apps is something you've mentioned twice before figuring out that you needed a cable. At the risk of repeating myself, when connecting a phone to the system, it doesn't actually add apps to the car. They still run on your phone. So nobody understood what you meant.
Perhaps you should describe what you were trying to do a little more clearly, or use proper terms, as opposed to "add apps". Or, you know... read the manual first, which does mention that you need a cable. I'm not sure why you'd think otherwise since only 1 car manufacturer in the world has actually implemented wireless Apple Carplay.
Either way, sounds like your issue is resolved. Enjoy the car and I suggest you read all the manuals. Tons of hidden features on this car.
