Horrible windshield glass

We got our 23 Pali Cali just 5 months ago. Got a very small chip in the middle far left edge of the windshield while driving on the freeway. Woke up the next morning to find that it had cracked over halfway (horizontally) across the windshield right in the line of sight from the drivers seat. No significant temperature issues like cold winter air or anything. I've been driving for 35 years and owned many different vehicles over the years. I've never seen anything like this! Hyundai appears to have the cheapest glass. I've had major chips and dings in Nissans, chevy's, Mazda's and even Mini and all of those windshields held strong. This Palisade seems sooooo brittle.
We purchased extra insurance for the glass, including 2 windshield replacements and I'm sure glad I did!!!! I just didn't think I'd need to use the first replacement within the first 5 months of owning the car.
Is this an issue anyone else is having?

I'm not sure I would take this experience as labeling the glass as horrible. There are many factors that come into play with the impact a chip is going to have on the windshield. Location, depth, stress forces on that location vs else where, etc. Sounds like bad luck to me.

Glass doesn't bend. If/when the shape of the glass and that of the frame don't match due to tolerances in both there will be stresses, and the smallest chip will enable the glass to bend.. by sadly, breaking.

Also keep in mind that the glass will expend and contract with temp change which will cause further cracking.

Freak windshield cracks can happen to any car, but the Palisade does have a reputation for being particularly susceptible.

Every car has its weak points.
We had to replace ours but it was quite a large rock, traveling so fast we didn't even see it hit that cracked ours instantly. It was also from just a normal car passing us on the Interstate. One second, we're fine, then what sounded like a gunshot, and then we needed a new windshield.

Had to go to Safelite's main headquarters in town because they have to recalibrate the camera but it was pretty painless.
I have to side with Flyinbriyin.
We have had 3 chips repaired on our 23 since delivery in Jan that wouldn't have left a mark on any other windshields.
The smallest of 'ticks' and there is damage whereas a down right 'smack' on our other windshields doesn't even leave a mark.
Call it thin or brittle, its different in a bad way.

That is true.

We've got our replacement scheduled with Safelite. The insurance company uses them for that very reason I guess, (recalibration etc.).

I understand. But my experience with so many other manufacturers' glass over my lifetime, this tiny little 'tick' (I saw/heard it), I doubt would have ever destroyed an entire windshield. One can truly never know. I agree with you though, bad luck!
Just had a chip repaired by SafeLite with no issue. Happens with every vehicle I've had.
My windshield has had 4 nicks treated (16 months 29,000km) and so far... knock on wood.. have not developed into cracks. One very large nick/star well over 1 inch in diameter has survived the winter.
