If your Palisade headlights suck, please post a picture (better than these, I bet you can't).

Clearly I don't understand the people that complain about the "V" dip in the Palisade lights. But I would love to try and understand where you are coming from.

These pictures were taken at 35.33324115222077, -97.58294387978803 looking south, just as the road transitions from asphalt to dirt. I feel confidant in saying that I see five (maybe six) utility poles on the left hand side of the low beam picture (seven on the high beam).

Maybe I'm wrong, but (these specific) five light poles have a distance between them of just around 800 ft. Not to shabby for low beams with a "V" dip that completely obstructs ones view of the road (according to some people).

Definitely look better than mine. I think that the lights are not properly aimed. There is a hot spot in the beam about 60-70 ft in front of the car with four adults in the car. The hot spot in the low beam pic looks to be 150 or so. Might have a gander at how to adjust.

I've posted this before, but here it is again. The charts below are from the IIHS website, which tests headlights. On the Palisade chart, notice that the right and left side are identical. The V-shaped black spot is the center left distance in the chart below, designed to avoid blinding oncoming drivers. This is in contrast with many vehicles, which dip the headlights all the way to the left instead of just having a V-shaped drop like the Palisade. This means you actually get better lighting with the Palisade than many other vehicles. You can see that in the Toyota Highlander and Ford Explorer charts below, where the left side is significantly worse than the right side.

And overall, the distance achieved by the Palisade is very good: they exceed the optimal markers in the charts below in almost all directions. So do the Highlander's, but look at the Explorer chart below...

The Palisade lights are very good. It's possible they are not aimed correctly on some people's cars.

My headlights are outstanding. The low beams are perfected adjusted so they don't hit people's rear windows... and I've only been flashed once in over a year for brights.

The high beam is like god lights.... lights up everything.

I imagine though, if I lived in the country, I would be frustrated with the lights since you have to turn on Auto High Beams every time and low beams are inadequate because they don't bleed light.

High beams are great, my problem is the low beams. My 2020 kia telluride SX prestige had much brighter headlights without the cutout

@Eric2203 Thanks for the information. I have not made it that far into the forum yet, but I appreciate the detail.

Since I live in the "sticks" and often drive at night passing maybe 4-5 cars during a 2-hour trip and worry more about not seeing larger animals darting across the road, I think I might look into adjusting my lights a little. If that does not do it, I will be looking at some discreet aux lights.

These look like they are aligned properly. Beam pattern looks virtually the same as my '22. I don't see a problem here. Lighting performance can be somewhat subjective to the driver. Compared to my daily commuter ride a 2023 Kia Forte the Palisade's headlights are absolutely amazing.

Wow those lights look way worse than my 2023 SEL with Premium. Mine look like the lights that the OP posted. If this was me, I would go back to the dealer armed with the info and have them adjusted stating safety is of concern

I have a 21 SEL Premium and have no issues with LED headlights. These are the best headlights I‘ve owned and my previous ride was a 2005 Altima with HIDs.

My wife just bought a 2023 Tucson with LEDs and my headlights are easily 5X brighter.

In fact, the only complaint I have is the random high beaming from oncoming drivers who think my high beams are on! The “V” notched is engineered to reduce “glare” to oncoming drivers. I suspect the 2025 models will have ”adaptive“ LED lights which have been in use in Europe for years.

Not the same as “auto-highbeam” but rather the computer automatically dims the intensity of low beams when approaching oncoming cars.

Adaptive headlights have been illegal in the U.S. because of a 1967 law requiring all U.S. equipped cars to have a separate low and high beam. The Infrastructure Bill that was passed in November 2021 has now allowed adaptive headlights but we now have to wait on the DOT to come up with new laws regulating them which will probably take a few years.

it's a cutout in the projector shielding, it is designed to prevent blinding oncoming drivers. all projector headlights have some type of cutoff line for this, Hyundai did it a bit different than just a straight line allowing for more light to the left but prevent blinding oncoming traffic

most are like this:

Hyundai does it with the V, allowing the light from the left side to come back up to the same level as the right side with the notch preventing the light from going into the windshield of oncoming traffic.

I literally explained this in the third post in this thread, with the IIHS charts. It also shows you that this V-shaped notch means you actually see more with Hyundai headlights than other brands that simply dip the beam all the way to the left.
