Sounds pretty normal for a GDI. Mine rattles like that when cold, then quiets down some when it warms up. I really prefer MPI but just about every more expensive car runs GDI (direct injection) for the slight fuel economy, efficiency, and performance gain.

GDI ticking is normal, even when warm. The noise is caused by fuel injectors operating under high pressure.
thanks both! I’ll have the dealer take a look regardless on my next service to make sure it’s a normal amount of “ticking” — I was more looking to determine if it’s something that could wait for regular maintenance vs having to bring it in. Cheers

Direct injection fuel pumps click. If you remove the engine cover (it pops off) you will see in the middle of the front bank of cylinders a foam cover over the high pressure fuel pump. That foam is there lower the noise, not to insulate tempature. This maybe what you are hearing.
