2023 Palisade Calligraphy - Terrible Volume

3105 Views 21 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Larry48
Has anyone else had issues with the volume in their Palisade? We just got the 2023 Palisade with Calligraphy trim and the sound/volume is so disappointing. With every other vehicle I've owned, the volume is fairly loud by about 20. On the Palisade, you have to increase the volume to almost 50 before it gets loud enough to really hear it. Pretty disappointing for relatively high high end speakers on the top trim of a vehicle. Is there a software update I missed or has anyone been able to correct this?

Is it doing this while you are connected to bluetooth or using xm/fm radio?

I'm an audio guy, so I am trying to figure out what you are saying. It seems you are disappointed in the overall scale of the volume range. Like you want 0-30 being min and max. And we have (I believe) 0-75 (EDITED AS PEOPLE FREAKED OUT I HAD NEVER TURNED MY NOB TO GET TO MAX VOLUME AND THE EXACT NUMBER AND WHY I STATED "I BELIEVE IN MY STATEMENT! This literally changes nothing about the discussion of rubes freaking out that in their last car they achieved their preferred SPL at a volume NUMBER different than what Hyundai provides in the Palisade) min and max. The number literally means NOTHING. With the larger scale you actually get finer control over the volume.

Both
This is a common problem with Hyundai and Kia vehicles. It appears to be all the ones with the 10.3" or larger nav head units 2022 or newer with or without HK system. I believe the input signal is vastly attenuated regardless of source. I have experimented using Spotify and CarPlay or Bluetooth with what is ridiculous amounts of gain on the source (Spotify). It is more linear but still not great. I have the levels cranked so much that when I use any other Bluetooth speaker it's pure distortion but sounds fine in the car.

It's almost too fine. You have to turn the knob like three or 4 times to really hear it well. I've never experienced volume controls like that before.
And that is all the way up to volume 55-57.
I'm not sure why you want to drive an amp near max with low signal input level, it just seems dumb. It just as dump as setting your gains to high on aftermarket amps and having no control with the volume control. Generally I like to be able to turn a volume control up to about 70% of max before you start to hear distortion from most sources. This gives you enough control for low level recordings or shit like Five Finger Death Punch where the levels are nearly maxed when it was recorded.
Got a new Pali, and have the same feedback. Seems like the audio does not get loud enough at similar levels as my other cars. Maybe a different approach, I dont know.
Just got our new Calligraphy and I also noticed this. The number on the volume scale is about 3 or 4 times higher than all other cars I've owned. However, it might just be an arbitrary way they mapped the volume to the numbers, Idk. It's not necessarily bothering me, but I do remember being surprised at first.

It's a poor way of doing it. No professional car stereo installer would set input signal and amplifier gain like this.
seriously, I have the same issue.

my scale goes from 0 to 70 i need a minimum of 50 to 60 to hear anything properly.

I hope that there will be a software fix for that.

They could potentially band aide this by adding a loudness option with a software update.
I'll note you can essentially create your own loudness button, crank your bass, midrange, and treble to max.

My scale is 0-75 others are saying theirs goes to 100, not sure why these vary
I find it amazing the things people create to complain about.
The numbers on the volume scale... Seriously?

Does your Palisade not have a low volume issue?

I don't believe anyone was complaing, merely stating what they are.

Well, if ones volume goes up to 70 and the other to 75 and some to 100 then there is a problem. Of course given they refer to the same year/trim
Mine is fine, but then again, I updated my software to the 221115 version as described on MyHyundai.com. I've heard that this version fixes some of the Audio issues. This is a DIY update, no need to go to the dealer. Mine was built before that date, but I purchased it in December, so I just did the update right after I bought it. Just follow the instructions from the main landing page using your PC, take the created USB drive to the car, and install the update. You will need a USB drive larger than 32Gb. I have a 2023 Cali and they call for the Standard-class Gen 5W 12.3 inch Touchscreen (NOT the Premium-class). Just follow the instructions carefully. If you still see the Nixie tubes for the radio tuner, you need to do the update. You can also go to Settings (far right button on dash) > General > Software Info/Update and see if you have software with a date code of 221115 - if not you need to do the update. I thought we were supposed to get OTA updates automatically, but I had to do mine manually - not that bad, but it took about 45 minutes to prep the USB drive and nearly an hour for the vehicle system to complete the update. And for those who are interested, my scale goes up to 75 - I would never listen to it at that volume though.
