Thanks! Posted her for sale on Facebook trying to get someone local interested. I knew I would get dealers messaging me about it. In 3 hours I had 4 local dealers and a wholesaler out of Dallas, Texas reach out. Wholesaler offered $52,000 and while I was on the phone with him, one of the local dealers (a Chevrolet dealer) messaged me and offered full asking if I sold it to them today. Three hours, a little leg work and 15 minutes actually at the dealer signing paperwork and it was done. Sad to see her go, we loved our Palisade! We just didn’t need it anymore.

I have my 2022 Tucson Hybrid and my partner has his 2021 F-150 Powerboost, a life saver as we have already gone through power outages since he purchased last September. Powers the entire house, even the central AC. We’re not going in the dark again! But, we just weren’t driving our Pali so it was time. It was a hard decision to make and really hard to leave her behind.

Fun fact, I got a Bluelink notification about the doors being unlocked so I went in to turn those off and decided to look up the location of the vehicle as it had not showed up for sale on the dealers website…. It’s in Dallas, Texas at the same wholesaler who contacted me and offered less money. Guess it was destined to go there. I find it odd that such a desirable, clean, and relatively new car went to the auction…. But I guess it’s how they make money on it.

It has been swell and I really appreciate all the folks on this forum for such great conversation over the last year! I know I definitely learned something along the way and I am very appreciative of that, so thank you!

I am going to guess that the wholesaler you are referring to is Texas Auto Value in Addison, TX (DFW area). I sold my limited (20k miles) to them a couple of months ago. I listed on Autotrader for what I felt was full value (and several thousand better than CarMax, Vroom, Carvana, CarGurus, etc) and Texas Auto Value called me within 1 hour of listing. They seem to have a network of folks watching the listings (including facebook and craigslist) closely and respond quickly. I was skeptical, but transaction went very smoothly. If someone was looking to sell a vehicle in the N Texas area or surrounding states, I would recommend them (I am totally unaffiliated, just reporting my experience).

Like you, I also still have my blue link enabled and have gotten a kick out of tracking the car. It went to auction a couple weeks after my sale. A week later it was moved over to near DFW airport at what seemed to be an Avis rental facility. It sat there for several weeks but has just now started moving again. Most recent movements to me make it seem that this car was sold to Avis as a rental car. I was surprised to see that Avis would purchase a used car for a rental, but we all know that it is tough to find vehicles out there.

All I am saying is that if it sold that fast, you probably could have gotten a little more out of it. Supply and demand and all.

I listed on Autotrader for what I felt was full value (and several thousand better than CarMax, Vroom, Carvana, CarGurus, etc) and Texas Auto Value called me within 1 hour of listing. They seem to have a network of folks watching the listings (including facebook and craigslist) closely and respond quickly. I was skeptical, but transaction went very smoothly. You would be correct! I had never heard of them and after messaging the guy who contacted me through Facebook, I felt comfortable enough to call them at the number he gave me... He offered $49,500 at first then bumped it up to $50,000. My other half said he would do $51,000 but right at that very moment a I saw a notification from a local dealer wanting to offer full asking price and Texas Auto Value wouldn't beat it. So we went with the local dealer as we could get it done and over with... really stress free. We were only at the local dealership for 15 minutes and it was a pleasant experience.

I will agree with you though, Texas Auto Value did seem competitive when compare them to Carvana, Vroom, Carmax, etc. Especially since they still have to make some money along the way as a wholesaler. I looked at similar units on websites like Cars.com and facebook to get a feel for what similar models/trims with similar miles were listed for and felt like mine was right in line with them but on the high end of book value. I feel like it was competitively priced, was a fair price, and a price I felt good letting it go at, seeing as I didn't HAVE to get rid of it.

A rental car now? How odd! They sold off all of their stock at the beginning of the pandemic and now that things are getting back to normal, they need something to rent. New or used, as long as they can start making some money on it. Very odd, but if they're having trouble getting new units from the manufactures. For example, I used to be in charge of purchasing company vehicles for field employees from Ford and GM for our company. Well back in August/September 2021, neither auto maker would take orders from us any more as they were focusing on building retail units, not units for corporate accounts. This left us with no option but to buy retail units without our contract discount ($3,000 -$9,000 depending on model) and pay MSRP, sometimes more, just like a normal retail transaction. Maybe these rental companies are running into similar situation? It's a tough market out there!

At the time, this was just a little under (few hundred dollars) where all dealers with cars matching mine were offering. I was shocked to see a wholesaler make the deal then flip it at the auction.

I did have a couple of private individuals call about the car. Each of them wanted to haggle and started offering less than asking. Did I leave money on the table? Probably just a little. But the ease of the transaction was worth it to me. And I can't imagine it was much more than $1k. Not having to deal with multiple test drives and concerns for financing, etc made it worth the while.

Texas Auto was between $3k and $4k better than the carmax, carvana, vroom guys at the time (I spent about 3 weeks continually getting quotes from them and couldn't get a number I was happy with). I would suggest that Texas Auto left money on the table.

That sounds like really good deal if you ask me, repair job or not! And like you said, it was easy. Not ever having sold a car on my own before, I was nervous about the logistics of getting the thing sold as well. But with selling it to a dealer for what I would consider a private party value, I am thankful I didn't end up having to deal with that!

Same here, about &3-$4K better than any of the latest offers I received on those sites. The offer they made was legit but I just couldn't do it seeing as the local dealer was offering what I was asking, it was just easier for me to handle locally. It ended up going down to them in the end any way! Ha! I'll keep tabs on mine and see where she ends up.
