Here is my install:

The problem is that there seems to be no hyundai part. So I tried a Ram harness, and although it was not a perfect match, if you bend it's pins in a bit, it will connect to the factory harness above. I did need to remove a diode from the adapters brake output wire. Also the wire color code didn't match redarc's but I just relocated the pins..Hopefully someone will start to sell the actual part soon.... Here is the part:

Here is the installed redarc brake controller:

Behind the dash. Note the aluminum pillar. If you choose the same mounting location move about an inch or two up. You'll also need to dremel the plastic ridges so I'd only put it here if you want to punish yourself.

Here is the pinout for the connector:

For the back of the '21 I just bought 2 of the '20 5 pin adapters and pulled the wires from one and made the 5 pin a 7 pin.

Ok so first step is to pull the orange piece out of the doner harness. ( I just used a set of needel nose plyers)
Then you'll have access to the pin retaining tabs. Just take a tiny screw driver and pry the clip away from the metal pin, then pull the wire out of the socket. You can practice with the small wires, as you have 2 extras.😁

Then remove the yellow retainer from the second harness, pop the wires in and replace the retainer. Unfortunately, I don't remember which pin was the +12v, and the braked 12v. So make sure you have a volt meter when hooking it up. Hyundai decided that 2 yellow wires made the most sense🤷‍♂️. Just make sure you get it right or you fry the trailer brakes. (I may know this from experience 🥺)

I used this setup for the trailer connection:

All,

I saw that Kia just released a 7 pin harness for the Telluride (part # S9F67-AC500). I'm checking with Hyundai now but I thought the wiring for the Telluride and Palisade were the same. Does anyone know if they are? If so, then I would think you can order the Telluride harness and use it on the Palisade as well.

Can't be 100% sure but it will be the same connection. Worst case you will need to flip a wire. Although, my guess is thatnits a direct fit.

So I managed to e-mail a KIA parts dealer out of AZ I believe asking for pictures on the above mentioned Telluride Part (S9F67-AC500) and they responded really quickly with some good photos for reference.

With the above pics, would anyone be able to confirm if this would be all that is needed? (Still need an actual brake controller right? And earlier in the thread someone mentioned a 4 pin connector near the OBDII in the dash for a brake controller connection to make things less messy?)
I'll try and get a link to their page for the part, if I remember correctly it was roughly 120 bucks or so...

Just found the link, looks like it's 140ish, and they have a "No Returns on Electrical Parts" policy, so I'd like to have this sorted out before I drop 140 bucks on it.

Hey Jeff,

You hear back from Hyundai about the wiring? I posted the part you mentioned above with some pictures from a parts dealer near-ish to me. They seem pretty identical but it would be nice to have Hyundai's input.

No. I never heard back, but I decided to take a chance and order the Kia harness. Figured I would worse case rewire it if I had to. I received it yesterday and it looks exactly like the pictures shared above and looks like it will work. Planning to install it today/tomorrow and test it out. The kit also comes with the connector cable for installing a wired brake controller upfront under the dash which is nice. I'm still debating whether I'll go with the wireless Curt Echo or use a wired Prodigy brake controller though. Will post this weekend on whether the kit works or not...but it looks very promising right now.

Success! I was able to install the Kia 7-pin wiring harness on my 2021 Palisade yesterday and it fit like a glove. Was exactly what I would have expected (but from Hyundai). The connector snapped in easily to the factory connector and I was easily able to route the cables and secure them using tie wraps. I tested all the pin outs on the 7-pin connector and everything worked fine, except the brake pin-out (since I haven't installed a brake controller yet). I'm pretty confident that will work once I install a wired one using the other cable that came with the kit, or the Curt Echo. While you can probably rewire other kits for less than the $140 I paid on line for the Kia kit, this was definitely very simple to install for the backend.

Hi, I was thinking about purchasing the 7 pin harness from Kia. Wanted to see if everything was still working good with your installation of the Telluride 7 pin on your Palisade. Have towed with it yet? Just curious. Wanted to make sure this was a good way to go for my tow set up.

Thanks

Thanks for the update. Please update again when/if you install a (wired) brake controller. I'm considering revising my wiring for the plug & play 7-pin harness using the Kia Part number S9F67-AC500, and will likely consider a brake controller as well. The Curt Echo is interesting, and I'll do more research, but I'm curious how simple the install is for a driver-accessed wired brake controller using the harness and plug under the dash. If you do a self install, a video or write up would be awesome. TIA!

Sorry for the delay in responding. My trailer is due to arrive next week so haven't towed with the 7 pin harness mentioned yet. However, I did install a brake controller since my last post. I went with the Prodigy P2. Installation was very easy. As one one the earlier posts mentioned, their is a 4 pin connector right behind the fuse cover inside the car. Mine was taped down pretty good but with a flashlight I could see it and was able to unwrap the tape without removing any of the dash.

I used butt crimp plugs that came with the P2 to connect it to the brake controller wiring harness that came with the KIA wiring harness and plugged the corresponding 4 pin into the above connector. Voila...everything worked perfectly when I tasted it, including using the manual switch on the P2 to send the brake signal to the 7 pin connector (I used a voltmeter to test everything). At this point, I'm very confident all the above will work fine.

Note: Based on an earlier comment, I mounted the P2 to the actual fuse cover up-front. It worked very well since the cover has a hole in it to route the above 4 pin connector the P2, so I only had to screw 2 holes into the fuse cover for mounting. I may or may not (probably not) buy a second fuse cover in case I ever sell the car and want to put an original fuse cover back on.

Fyi. As mentioned above I ended-up going with the Prodigy P2 vs the Echo. After reading numerous reviews of both, it seemed to have fewer issues. I'm sure you've read some of the same. I did self install everything. Will try to take some pictures this week and attach,

Excellent, thanks very much for the writeup, and any other photos you can provide.

A couple more questions -
-How did you go about mounting your 7-pin harness at the rear? Does the OEM Kia kit come with some form of a mount bracket, or did you strap to your hitch crossbar?
- Do you feel the fuse cover is adequately secured for the brake controller mount? I like the idea of potentially quick-disconnecting the brake controller when I'm not using it...

I was looking at the Redarc brake controller for the low-profile installation, and also mounting their button/dial to the fuse cover.

All in all, it sounds like the Kia 7-pin part you've mentioned are a bit more expensive than some other options all-in, but also effectively the most "plug-and-play" unit. Sure would be nice if Hyundai would start selling the part kit to be 'official'. It's also hard to find good photos of the Kia part kit on the web, so that creates a bit of uncertainty on whether it will truly work.

Thanks again for putting this Palisade-specific cross-fitment information out there.

I went ahead and ordered the Kia harness. Got it installed. Hooked it up to the trailer and all lights work good. I decided to just go with the Echo brake controller for the ease of install. Brake controller working fine also. A bit more expensive for the Kia harness but was very easy to install. On another note, I saw on a different thread that someone posted yesterday that they just received an email from Tekonsha that they are in the process of producing a 7 pin wiring harness for the 2021 Palisade so looks like they may have a more cost friendly version out soon.

I also ordered the Kia 7-Pin harness for my 2021 Palisade, and it arrived today. My original plan was:
  • Kia S9F67 AC500 7-Pin Tow Hitch Harness
  • Curt 51458 Dodge Ram Brake Control Harness as mentioned by @Edaw104
  • Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller
My plan was to splice together the Curt 51458 pigtail with the pigtail that comes with the Tekonsha. Then I found this Kia brake control harness part on Amazon that looked like a closer fit so I ordered it too:
What I didn’t realize is that the Kia AC500 kit comes with the 7-Pin harness for the back, but also the wiring adapter for the brake controller connector under the dash.

The Tekonsha 3032-P plug was indeed closer than the Curt Ram connector, but the pin out was different than the Hyundai Palisade. So, I took the connector from the part included with the Kia kit, and replaced the one on the end of the Tekonsha 3032-P kit, rearranging the wires in the correct order.

3171

Here is the comparison of the two connectors, the Tekonsha 3032-P on the left and the correct AC060 on the right:

And here is the difference between the Curt 51458 and the AC060

3173

Now it is all mounted with no splicing

Glad to hear it worked for you too. My trailer finally arrived and I picked it up last week. Everything worked like a charm for the brake controller. As mentioned, I went with the Prodigy P2 controller. Here's the pictures I promised (better late than never) for others looking to do the same thing. It's hard to see the 4 pin connecting the brake controller behind the fuse cover, but I circled it in green. Initially had trouble spotting the 4 pin connector because it was taped so well to the other harness, but it's there.

There are no doubt cheaper solutions, but I liked the turn key approach for everything. Take care and happy camping
